“You do realize this thing might not end well, don’t you?” she asked him. Staring into the distance he knew exactly what she was talking about. It had been a battle to get to this point. A fight filled with compromises and set backs. But they had made it at long last. They were finally together and all the sacrifices they had endured disappeared into the night sky above them. It had been worth it. Both felt it in their hearts.

How the rest of their two worlds saw it would be an entirely different matter. Would there be disbelief? Anger? Confrontations? It was highly likely. That couldn’t be avoided and they accepted that. But they were prepared for it. Together they could take on anything. Sometimes to reach your destiny you have to crawl on your knees and walk through the mud. Often there’s no way around that. If the destination is worth it then it’s a small price to pay.

“I know that,” he finally answered in a determined voice. Reaching for the nape of her neck he pulled her closer into him, their faces almost touching. “If we’re going to burn, then let’s make it a fucking inferno!”
